In the first quarter of 2025, driverless freight transportation is set to launch on the Central Ring Road (CKAD) in the Moscow Region. This announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Transport Dmitry Bakanov at the “Transport of Russia” forum, highlighting that the project is in its final testing phase.
The digital twin of the road, developed by Telematika, is being tested by KAMAZ, Autotech, and Yandex, who are preparing the technology for large-scale implementation. During the second phase of the “Driverless Logistics Corridors” project, similar operations will commence on the M-12 “Vostok” highway in 2026. By 2030, the network of autonomous routes in Russia is expected to span 19,500 km.
The project has already proven its efficiency. On the M-11 “Neva” highway, where driverless trucks have been operating since 2022, travel time between Moscow and St. Petersburg has been halved from three to one and a half days. Since the experiment began, over 330,000 cubic meters of cargo have been delivered, and the trucks have logged over 3 million kilometers.
The introduction of autonomous systems on CKAD is expected to increase the speed of commercial freight by 25% and reduce delivery costs by 10%, strengthening Russia’s position in the logistics and freight markets.
