Hong Kong, the largest container port in the world, handled 14.3 million TEU during 2023, representing a 14% decline in throughput. Last year, the port’s throughput decreased by 6.9%. The decrease in container transshipment volumes can be attributed to various factors such as deterioration of the global economic situation, changes in trade routes, etc. In December 2023, Hong Kong’s terminals processed 1.18 million TEU, which is by 16% less than in December 2022. As compared to the previous month’s level, the port's container throughput declined by 3.7%.
