The administration of the Panama Canal has announced the extension of the reservation for the passage of vessels under Condition 3 in the Panamax locks. In accordance with this Condition, the number of booking slots is limited to a total of 14, including 10 slots for Supersize vessels and 4 slots for regular-sized vessels).
Such a reservation allows you to cope with congestion and ensures that ships on the way or in line that have not booked slots will be able to pass the channel in a competitive time, the channel administration explains.
It is noted that the standard reservation offer under Condition 2 includes 23 slots for the passage of ships in the Panamax locks. According to this Condition, the option of a significant reduction in capacity is being considered, for example, the closure of lanes for maintenance, the distribution is reduced to 16 booking slots.
The canal administration also reminds that the transit of ships through the Neopanamax locks averages 10 ships per day, so this measure did not affect them.
