Freight Traffic on Russia’s Border with China and Mongolia Increases by 54%

In the first ten months of 2024, the number of freight vehicles crossing Russia’s border with China and Mongolia in the Far East reached 482,000, marking a 54.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, 271,200 trucks entered Russia (a 43.2% increase), while 210,800 exited to China and Mongolia (up by 71.4%).
The highest freight turnover was recorded at the Zabaikalsk international checkpoint, where traffic grew 1.8 times to 181,300 vehicles in both directions. Significant growth was also observed at the Pogranichny checkpoint in Primorye, where freight flow rose by 66% to 76,400 vehicles. The Kani-Kurgan checkpoint in the Amur region saw a 1.3 times increase (over 52,100 vehicles), while Poltavka recorded a 76% rise (45,000 vehicles). Cross-border freight transport resumed in Blagoveshchensk, where nearly 5,000 trucks were recorded, and the Starotsurukhaitui checkpoint experienced the largest growth, tripling its traffic to 8,900 vehicles.
Recently, the Zabaikalsk international automobile checkpoint hosted a delegation of representatives from the FSUE Rosgranstroy and the Office for Port Management of Inner Mongolia in China. The Chinese side expressed readiness to establish a permanent 24-hour operating schedule at the Zabaikalsk–Manzhouli checkpoint in both directions.
